School Needs

Horning Middle School:

We need your help! Horning Middle School is introducing a new program that encourages their students to seek out stories through dialogue with an older generation. Volunteers over the age of 55 will be matched with one or two 8th grade students (per class hour). We are looking for 15 volunteers to fill this need in the school!

Dates (must attend at least 1 semester, preferably both):

  • 2nd semester 2018 dates: Wednesday, February 21st, Wednesday, February 28th, Wednesday, March 14th

Times (pick any or all sessions):

  • 8:45-9:20am (during 2nd hour)
  • 9:25-10:00am (during 3rd hour)
  • 1:00-1:35pm (during 6th hour)

Program details: Students will have the chance to interview volunteers about their life. They will then create a story or artifact that showcases or symbolizes the volunteer’s story. The projects will be shared with volunteers on the last date of each semester. The first semester will focus on open-ended life stories while the second semester will focus on life stories that are connected to important historical events. Contact Corinn Marich for more information at (262) 522-2403 or CorinnM@ERAsWaukesha.org.  We ask that you tell your friends about this opportunity! Spread the Word!

Faith in Action Needs

Snow Angels:

Did you know that volunteers cannot deliver a hot meal on an unshoveled driveway? Seniors will try to shovel their own driveway if they do not have help, putting themselves at risk of falling. Each year, we are unable to find a snow removal volunteer for over half of the seniors who need our help. Help us keep the seniors in Waukesha County safer this winter by signing up as a snow removal volunteer today! Help is needed from the first snow fall until April. You will be matched with an ongoing person and will be expected to shovel every snowfall. We are looking for over 25 snow angel volunteers to ensure our client's driveways and sidewalks are cleared after each snowfall. Thank you to all the volunteers who have been shoveling for the same client year after year so they can stay in their home safely.

Handy Person:

A woman living in Waukesha needs a volunteer to perform some minor electrical work. She wants a light fixture hung over a mirror in her bath and some wires looked at in her basement after the death of her husband some time ago.

Friendly Face:

We’re looking for a Friendly Visitor and a Non-Medical respite volunteer to sit with a gentleman in Muskego who has Parkinson’s disease with some dementia. His wife needs a breather to take care of herself.

Painter:

A woman in Pewaukee would like a wall her in her basement painted before she puts her house up for sale. She would provide the necessary materials. This is a great service project for a group of teens or a couple looking for something to do on a rainy day.

Community Needs

Muskego Senior Taxi:

Are you a kind-hearted individual with a good driving record? Muskego Senior Taxi is looking for volunteers to help individuals in need get to important appointments. Operation is Monday thru Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Daily schedules vary by need. Volunteers should be willing to drive one day per week throughout the year. Substitute drivers are also needed. Volunteers pick up their schedules and cars from the Muskego Senior Taxi Office at the ProHealth Care Muskego Regency Senior community at the corner Racine Avenue (Hwy Y) and Woods Rd. in Muskego. Clients are ambulatory, so no lifting of wheelchairs is required. Rides are provided throughout SE Waukesha County and SW Milwaukee County. Clients and their family members are always very grateful for this support.

Hospice Friendly Visitor Program at Serenity Hospice Care

Hospice Friendly Visitor Program at Serenity Hospice Care
Friendly visitors provide companionship to our hospice patients. Spend time sharing stories, reading to them, listening to music, watching a favorite TV show or just sitting quietly. We will work to match you with a patient based on your location, availability and background so this role is not only tailored to our patients' needs, but can fit into your schedule as well.
