Get the facts, NOT the flu
There are many common misconceptions and myths about flu vaccines, illness, treatment, and recovery. The Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging recently published some of these myths with facts in the hopes that more older adults receive the flu vaccine.
Getting the flu is no big deal.
It is a big deal! The flu can make you very sick, - especially if you are older - in some cases causing hospitalization and even death.
Flu shots can GIVE you the flu or Covid.
NOPE! You cannot get the flu or Covid from getting the flu shot. Even after you get your flu shot, it’s important to wear a mask, wash your hands often and stay six feet apart to protect yourself and others.
I’m healthy. I don’t need a flu shot.
FALSE! Even healthy people can get the flu and suffer major health effects.
Flu shots always have bad side effects.
There may be some minor side effects, but they are usually very mild.
I don’t need a flu shot every year.
YES, YOU DO! Flu viruses are constantly changing and protection from vaccination declines over time, so you need a flu shot every year.
