The Impact of Eras Senior Network Programs
A recent participant survey provided a powerful reminder of why Eras exists and how deeply our programs impact the lives of seniors in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Time and again, clients shared that Eras helps them maintain their independence, stay healthy, and remain connected to the people and places that matter most. Whether it's a ride to a medical appointment, a trip to the grocery store, or a friendly voice on the phone, these services provide more than practical support. They help people continue living safely and confidently in their own homes.
The gratitude expressed by participants was heartfelt and overwhelming. Many described Eras as an essential lifeline, sharing comments such as, "I would be lost without Eras," "It's a lifesaver," and "It keeps me independent." Others spoke about the compassionate volunteers and staff who make the programs so special, noting their kindness, patience, and willingness to go above and beyond. One client captured the impact best by saying, "I don't know what I would do without Eras."
The survey also highlighted the remarkable difference the Friendly Phone Call Program makes in combating loneliness and isolation. For many participants, these calls have become a cherished part of their week, providing companionship, encouragement, and meaningful human connection. Clients shared comments such as "I found a friend," "The calls mean everything to me," and "I look forward to the calls every week." Others said the calls help them feel remembered, valued, and cared for, with one participant simply stating, "Someone cares about me."
These stories remind us that Eras is about more than transportation and phone calls. It is about preserving dignity, fostering connection, and ensuring that older adults remain active members of their communities. The voices of our clients reinforce the importance of this work and the vital role our volunteers, donors, and community partners play in helping neighbors live healthier, more connected, and more independent lives.
Did you know that a portion of the funding Eras receives from city, county and federal sources requires matching funds?
One important way we can help meet this requirement is through the support of dedicated volunteers who drive our vehicles.
By volunteering your time, you're not only helping individuals get where they need to go, you're also helping Eras maximize available funding and expand services in our community.
